Abstrak

Environmental graphic memberi informasi tentang suatu objek dan mengkomunikasikan maksud seorang desainer pada pengguna desain. Namun, masih banyak environmental graphic yang kurang baik dan kurang efektif, sehingga akhirnya gagal menjadi media komunikasi dalam masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui cara merancang environmental graphic yang baik dan efektif. Tipe penelitian yang dilakukan adalah kombinasi dari tipe penelitian faktual dan  historik, yang didapatkan  melalui metode penelitian lapangan dan pustaka. Hasil pengumpulan kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas masyarakat tidak begitu memperhatikan adanya environmental graphic di sekitar mereka. Kurangnya kepedulian dan perhatian dari masyarakat pada environmental graphic adalah karena desainnya yang kurang menarik, serta tempatnya yang kurang strategis dan ergonomis. Kesimpulan yang didapatkan yaitu, environmental graphic yang baik dan efektif bergantung pada desain (bentuk, warna, tingkat kerumitan gambar, dan lain-lain) serta penempatan environmental graphic tersebut. Kriteria environmental graphic yang baik yaitu mudah dilihat, mudah dibaca, mudah dimengerti, menjawab kebutuhan manusia akan informasi, dan pesannya tersampaikan. Sedangkan kriteria environmental graphic yang efektif yaitu strategis, menarik, simpel, dan informatif.

Abstract

Environmental graphic gives information about an object and communicates the intention of a desainer to the design consumers. However, there are still many environmental graphic which is unfavourable and uneffective, so that they fail to become a communication media in society. The intention of this research is to know how to design a good and effective environmental graphic. The type of research that used in this journal is a combination of factual and historical research, obtained through field research and book study method. The results of the questionnaire showed that the majority of society doesn't paid much attention to the environmental graphics around them. The lack of care and concern from the society on environmental graphic are because of the less attractive design, as well as the non strategic placement and ergonomical issue. The conclusion been obtained is that a good and effective environmental graphic depends on the design (shape, color, image complexity, etc.) as well as the placement of the environmental graphic itself. A good environmental graphic criteria are easy to see, easy to read, easy to understand, meet the human needs for informations, and could conveyed the messages. As for an effective environmental graphic criteria are strategic, attractive, simple, and informative.
